Puzzle of the Week: Week 7
Three friends Piyush,Qasim and Robert,went camping.They got lost and had to spend a night in the middle of a forest.So they put up their camp and went to bed.They had carried with them a box of apples.During the night Piyush woke up and decided to hide his share of the apples and hid a third,then promptly fell asleep again.Qasim woke up shortly thereafter and also decided to hide a third of the remaining apples and he also went back to sleep.Finally Robert woke up and seeing the others were asleep ,took a third of what was left.Of course none of them knew of the others' antics.So,in the morning,they shared the remaining apples,each receiving sixteen.How many apples were in the crate originally? no of apples left=x-x/3=2x/3
no.of apples hide by qasim=2x/3.3=2x/9
no of apples left=2x/3-2x/9=4x/9

no of apples left=4x/9-4x/27=8x/27
no or apples received by everyone=16
.....8x/27.3=16
.....x=162

Initially there were 162 apples.Piyush took 162/3=54. Rest 108/3=36 apples were takne by Qasim.
108-36=72.Robert took 72/3=24 apples.Rest 72-24= 48 apples were shared by three & each receive 16 apples.
